Manchester United look set to pip Liverpool to Thiago Alcantara after making contact over the deal, while an unhappy Tottenham star has been put up for sale, according to Wednesday’s paper gossip.

THIAGO REPRESENTATIVES APPROACHED BY MAN UTD

Manchester United are set to pull clear in the hunt for Thiago Alcantara after making their move for the Spaniard.

The 29-year-old is looking to leave Bayern Munich this summer to take on a fresh challenge.

With just a year left on his contract, the European champions know they won’t be able to command his market value. As such, the €30m (£27m) asking price appears a bargain for a player of his quality.

Liverpool had been touted as favourites to sign the player, but appear unable to raise the funds unless a player leaves. Reports have stated that Georginio Wijnaldum could be sacrificed. The Dutchman is a ‘priority’ for new Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman.

The sale of Wijnaldum should give Liverpool licence to sign Thiago.

However, by then that could be too late.

Over the weekend it was claimed United are also keen on Thiago.

The Red Devils tried to land the Spain star under Louis van Gaal’s regime, but they are now back in for the player. That’s despite closing in on a deal for Donny van de Beek.

As per Bild, via the Daily Mirror, United have now made an approach to Thiago’s agents over the prospective deal.

The report states that while United are yet to contact Bayern, they have reached out to his representatives to set the ball rolling. With the asking price unlikely to be a problem, United know agreeing personal terms will be the main obstacle to overcome.

However, that is not likely to be prove difficult. As such, Liverpool now look in serious danger of missing out on the player, just as they were warned.
