Weeds that had sprung 4 or 5  feet high have been hacked down, and a decaying tree branch that had either been wind-blown or dragged under the overhanging marquee, near the Hollywood 16 box office, has been cleared out. Cleaners moved inside the Hollywood 16 this week to air out and sanitize the Tuscaloosa facility.

With the releases of Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet,” and the much-anticipated “Bill and Ted Face the Music,” Tuscaloosa’s only multiplex plans to re-open this weekend, possibly Thursday night or Friday.

“We are racing to have the location ready,” said Guy Austin, vice-president of operations for CMX Cinemas, the Hollywood 16 owners. “We will open as soon as we can do so safely. That is our priority — the health and safety of guests and staff.
