Israeli Restaurant Mizlala Scores Hat Trick With New Hollywood Location

Casual Israeli food specialist Mizlala is temptingly close to a third location, this time in Hollywood’s bustling Media District. The corner restaurant at the intersection of Sycamore and Romaine sits just half-a-block north of Tartine, Sightglass, and the upcoming Gigi’s.

Mizlala has garnered citywide attention for its casual menu of Israeli and Middle Eastern basics, including everything from hummus and falafel to meat skewers, Moroccan fried chicken, and more. The restaurant is founded by chef Danny Elmaleh (who for years oversaw the corporate food side for hospitality giant SBE), and first opened as a sit-down spot in Sherman Oaks back in 2017. From there the restaurant expanded to West Adams, opening up an airy patio party spot basically across the street from Alta Adams. Now like everyone else the restaurant is up and deliverable on apps like Postmates, servicing large swaths of the heart of LA with its food.

While Elmaleh has not spoken to Eater about a timeline (or anything else) for this new third location in Hollywood, things look very far along. There’s already some signage up on a pillar outside, and inside the kitchen has been outfitted with dual shawarma spits, bar items, and more. There’s a medium-sized cement-lined patio out front and plenty of greenery, though no tables or chairs, indicating an opening could be just a few weeks away. Elmaleh, meanwhile, continues to stay busy by jumping on board with the CIM Group responsible for so much of the building around West Adams, the Hollywood Media District, and beyond. He can routinely be found running the kitchen right now at Johnny’s in West Adams.
