LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech (0-3-2) fell Friday night to No. 6 TCU (4-0-1), 2-0.
The game’s only scores of the night came in the opening 10 minutes, leaving Tech to chase the game the remaining 80. Messiah Bright’s fifth-minute goal lit up the board for the Horned Frogs before Grace Collins’ score in the ninth doubled those hosts’ lead.
“Obviously we are disappointed we gave up two goals that were highly preventable,” said head coach Tom Stone. “We were playing well to that point and had a ton of the ball, but that’s a big hole to dig out of against a team that has a lot of confidence right now.”
Tech came out fighting in the second half, desperate to find the back of the net and make progress towards salvaging points on the road. The first 20 minutes of the latter half yielded perhaps the two best chances for Tech. In the 54thminute, Kirsten Davis drove down the right side before crossing one into the box. The ball carried over the TCU keeper and struck the far post, then nearly deflected off a Horned Frog defender and into the net.

In the 62nd, Brittany Martin took a look from the top of the box, one-timing a ball low left and nearly finding the corner. She finished with three shots on the night before being sent off after receiving a second yellow card in the 80th minute.
“We had to make a system change in the second half,” Stone said. “We got them a bit on the offensive, but the chances we created went missing and we couldn’t get that ever-important first goal to be able to make the game interesting in the end.”

“Lots of people in our squad are just now getting their fitness back,” said Stone. “We look forward to becoming a whole team at some point this season and seeing what we can get done with the rest of the schedule.”
Tech will return home for an Oct. 23 home match against Iowa State. First touch is set for 7 p.m. on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
