VASSAR – The Unionville-Sebewaing Area varsity football team traveled on Friday night to Vassar, where the Patriots blew out the Vulcans, 45-0.
USA stormed out of the gate early, taking an 8-0 lead just 42 seconds into the game on a seven-yard rushing touchdown by Walker Foley and a successful two-point conversion pass from Connor Gettel to Jeremiah Hahn.
The Patriots didn’t let up, taking a 30-0 lead into halftime on rushing touchdowns by Braylon Ballard and Noah Crumm, a 32-yard TD pass from Gettel to Ballard and two-point conversions on a Foley run and a Gettel pass to Keegan Bixman.
Gettel would find the end zone three more times in the second half on TD passes to Foley and Ballard and a 27-yard touchdown run. Gettel also completed a pass for another two-point conversion to Ballard. Kicker Nehemiah Parmenter added an extra point.
The Patriots piled up 366 yards of total offense, with 283 of those coming on the ground. Leading rushers for USA were Gettel with 92 yards on five carries, Ballard with 74 yards on nine carries, Foley with 46 yards on four carries and Crumm with 38 yards on six carries. Gettel was 4-of-5 passing for 83 yards and a pair of TDs. Foley caught three passes for 68 yards and a score.
On defense, Samuel Koch led the way with eight tackles. Gettel and Ballard had six, and Foley had four. Bixman had a fumble recovery, and Ballard picked off one pass. USA limited Vassar to just 104 yards of total offense on the night.
The Patriots improved to 3-2 on the season with the victory.
Next up, USA closes out the regular season with a game on the road at Harbor Beach. The game gets underway at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23.
